Celtic need to strengthen in a number of positions over the course of the next few months if they are to return to the top of Scottish football in the near future after their disappointing performances and results throughout the course of this campaign. But one position that they must definitely sign a player or two in appears to be right-back.

The club allowed both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed to leave in the past winter transfer window and since then, they have been very light in that area.

Jonjoe Kenny arrived on loan from Everton. But after a bright start to his time at Parkhead, he has faded away and it looks unlikely that the club will try to extend his stay beyond this season.

One right-back that they have been linked with in the recent past is Milan van Ewijk. The 20-year-old has done well for Dutch side, ADO Den Haag, this season but with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2022, he might be on the move in the summer. As reported by AD, ADO Den Haag appear to be looking for a transfer fee in the region of €750,000 (£650,000).

Could Celtic pull off a move for Van Ewijk?

Right-back is a position that Celtic certainly need to improve upon and signing a player like Van Ewijk might not be a bad idea on the part of the Hoops. But it is not going to be simple though.

As reported by Voetbal International (via HITC), the likes of Schalke and Hamburg also appear to be interested in the youngster. Thus, there is expected to be some tough competition for his signature.

Van Ewijk is a balanced right-back, who is adept at both ends of the pitch. Thus, if the club are able to sign him, especially at a transfer fee around €750,000, it would be seen as a shrewd move.
