A number of Celtic players are expected to depart Parkhead over the course of the next few months with the club set to undergo a massive overhaul. One of those players is Kristoffer Ajer.
Ajer will be entering the final year of his current contract this summer and as a result, the club might have no choice but to let him leave rather than see him become a free agent soon.
The Norwegian has arguably been the club’s best defender in a season in which they have struggled badly at the back. As a result, his exit would be a massive blow to the Hoops and could leave them with a completely new look defence come next season.
A number of clubs have been linked with Ajer over the past several months but it looks like it is a move to Newcastle United that he prefers at this point of time. A report from the Daily Mail says:
Norwich and AC Milan have also expressed interest however the Norway international believes regular football at Newcastle can provide the ideal next step up in his career.

Ajer looks set to leave Celtic this summer
Ajer is one of the most highly-rated players in this current Celtic team. As a result, not too long ago, he was valued at around £25 million.
But with just a year left on his contract at the end of this campaign, it is unlikely that the club will receive an offer as high as that for the Norwegian international. In fact, Newcastle United could put in a transfer bid in the range of £8 million.
Will a transfer fee in that range be enough to convince the Hoops to let Ajer leave? That remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, and that is that the club will need to replace a player like him.
Despite being linked with a move away for a long time now, Ajer has remained a regular first-team starter and been a consistent performer as well. Thus, his potential departure will definitely leave a void if it does happen.
