There is no denying the fact that Chelsea are one of the best run clubs in the world at the moment. And the latest decision on their part should definitely be of interest to Celtic fans.
A few weeks earlier, it had emerged that 12 of the biggest clubs in Europe were looking to create a competition of their own known as the European Super League. It was a proposed 20-team competition where 15 founding members would have guaranteed spots.
The ‘Big Six’ of the Premier League were involved in the idea along with the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan. Three more founding members were expected to join them.
Naturally, this created a lot of controversy and fans even came out to protest against it. It was not too long before the English clubs decided to withdraw from the competition and ultimately, the European Super League was suspended.
Celtic fans should be interested by latest Chelsea decision
It is worth pointing out that Chelsea were the first club who appeared to be ready to withdraw from the European Super League. Now, they have also decided to have supporter presence at the club’s board meetings.
They released a statement on the club’s official website:
"Chelsea Football Club announces that, as from 1 July, there will be supporter presence at the Club’s board meetings.Three supporter advisors, picked through an election and selection process, will attend board meetings to ensure general supporter sentiment is considered as part of the Club’s decision-making process. The Club will now consult with the Fans’ Forum and several non-official supporter groups to discuss the Club’s proposed process for picking the three supporter advisors."

This is certainly a very interesting decision on the part of the London club and one that has been taken keeping the criticism of the proposed European Super League from their own fans in mind.
Why could this be of interest to Celtic? It is because there has been a complaint in recent years that a divide has formed between the Hoops’ supporters and the board. Supporter presence at the club’s board meetings could certainly help bridge the gap.
We have seen in the past how one club taking an innovative step leads to others doing the same in the not too distant future. And it remains to be seen whether that will be the case when it comes to Chelsea’s latest decision to have supporter presence at their board meetings as well.
