A new striker will probably be near the top of Celtic’s summer wishlist. Patryk Klimala has already left the club for New York Red Bulls. Odsonne Edouard is expected to leave in the summer as well, with just a year left on his current deal. Vakoun Issouf Bayo is also being linked with an exit. And it remains to be seen what the future holds for Leigh Griffiths.

On top of that, Albian Ajeti has not managed to find his feet at the club since joining from West Ham United in the summer. Thus, the Hoops might be very short of options up top come next season.

One striker whose name has been brought up recently is Charlie Wyke, who has been linked with a Parkhead move. The Englishman currently plays for Sunderland and has been in sensational form this season.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 29 goals across all competitions through the course of this campaign. And with his contract set to run out in the summer, it is not hard to see why the club would be interested in a move. Kevin Phillips believes that he “would jump at the chance” of a Parkhead move if the opportunity was there. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“If Celtic did come in for Wyke with a serious offer then the player would have no option but to go. It would be incredible for him to play in front of a full Celtic Park.“If they came in I think the player would jump at the chance to be honest with you.”"

Would signing Wyke be a good move on the part of Celtic?

There is no denying the fact that Wyke has had a tremendous season. But there will surely be a couple of doubts regarding a possible move.

Firstly, he plays in League One and there will always be the question about how he would adjust to Premiership football. Secondly, while he has scored 29 goals this season, he managed only 11 goals in his last two seasons with Sunderland combined.

And he is 28 years of age, meaning he is in the prime of his career at this point of time. Thus, it is hard not to wonder whether it would be the right move on the part of the Glasgow giants to sign him.
