It is clear that Celtic need to change things up over the course of the summer if they are to turn things around and return to the top of Scottish football in the near future.
Their 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Rangers on Sunday meant that the club have lost four of the five games played between the two Glasgow giants this season while the remaining one ended in a draw. As a result, not only will they finish the season without a trophy but they also finish it without a victory over Steven Gerrard’s side.
After a long time, Celtic are behind the Rangers and have some serious catching up to do in a short space of time. One way of doing that would be to sign top quality players in the summer.
Kevin Phillips believes that Xherdan Shaqiri would be a great signing for the Hoops. As reported by Football Insider, he said:
"“A loan move could work out for Celtic financially.“From Liverpool’s point of view, I think they would rather see Shaqiri leave on a permanent deal. It will be interesting to see what happens there.“Shaqiri has got a lot of quality and I think he would shine up in that league. That would be a great signing for Celtic so long as they did not have to break the bank to get him in.”"

Shaqiri would be a great signing for Celtic if they can get the deal done
Shaqiri has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe through the course of his career. Other than Liverpool, he has also represented the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in the past.
But he has not been a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s side lately. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 21 appearances this season, which have combined for just 788 minutes of football. As a result, it would not be surprising to see him leave the club in the near future in search of regular football. His contract with the Premier League giants runs till the summer of 2023.
But will Celtic be able to sign the 29-year-old, either on a permanent basis or on loan? That is the big question. It would certainly be a tough task to match his Liverpool wages. But if they can get a deal done for someone like Shaqiri, it would be a massive statement of intent from the club.
