As Celtic lost another Glasgow Derby, it has become clearer than ever that things need to change at Parkhead if they want to get back to challenging for titles anytime soon. And the first big change that they will need to make is bring in a new manager.

At this point of time, Eddie Howe appears to be the frontrunner for the Parkhead job. He has been linked with the club for quite some time now and recent rumours suggest that an appointment is near.

Howe is very highly rated for the work that he did at Bournemouth, taking them from the relegation zone of League Two to the Premier League and has been touted by many as a potential future England national team manager. Thus, if the Hoops can appoint him, it will be viewed as a major coup.

While no announcement has been made yet, Tom English believes that Celtic have it ‘in the bag’. While speaking on BBC Sportsound and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said:

"“I’m pretty sure they’ve got Eddie Howe in the bag and they’re just trying to add on the bells and whistles.”"

The Celtic manager will have a lot to do

Howe or whoever the next Celtic manager turns out to be, will have his work cut out for him. It is clear that after a long time, the Hoops are no longer the best team in Scotland. And they are facing a massive overhaul in the summer, with a number of players expected to leave and behind the scenes changes set to take place as well.

Appointing someone with the quality of Howe would certainly be a step in the right direction though. The fact that his sides are known to play attacking football also make him an attractive option for the club.

He is not a magician though. And a lot will depend on the kind of recruitment that is made over the course of the next few months.
