It is safe to say that the 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Rangers was a disappointing result for Celtic. And after it became clear that they were not going to win a trophy in this campaign, the Hoops are now also not going to have a win over Steven Gerrard’s side.

In the five times that they have met this season, the Rangers have won on four occasions while the other one finished in a draw. And as result, it is safe to say that the Hoops have some ground to make up come next season if they want to catch up with their Glasgow rivals.

Today’s game probably got out of Celtic’s reach when Callum McGregor was sent off in the 26th minute of the game. After that, they were down to 10 men for the majority of the game and that was always going to be difficult, even if the team were on form.

John Kennedy believes that McGregor did not deserve the first of his two yellow cards though. While talking with Sky Sports and as reported by The Scottish Sun, he said:

"“Yeah, it is the turning point but it is one of those – the second tackle he is on a yellow and goes to ground and gets the red card. That’s not a problem.“It is the first one. The yellow card.“I asked the referee at half-time what he booked [Callum] McGregor for and he said a reckless tackle. I don’t see any recklessness in it. He’s on his feet and made a genuine attempt for the ball and [Ryan] Kent has managed to nick it before him.”"

Celtic need to turn things around

Celtic’s focus should now be on changing things up and turning things around as soon as possible after falling behind the Rangers after a long time.

There is no point dwelling on the result of the day too much. To be very honest, the Hoops are expected to have a very different look team next season and the focus should be on building a side that is capable of winning the Premiership.

A new manager is expected to come in as well and hopefully, he will bring fresh ideas with him because that is something that the team seems to be lacking at this point of time.

Right now, Eddie Howe appears to be the frontrunner for the Parkhead job.
