After months of rumours and speculation, it looks like Celtic are finally closing in on appointing the club’s next manager. And it is increasingly looking like Eddie Howe is going to be the man in the Parkhead dugout come next season.

Howe has been linked with the job for a long time now. The earliest rumours emerged as early as last year when the Hoops were struggling under Neil Lennon.

The change was not made then. But ultimately, Lennon stepped down from his role in February in the middle of a disappointing campaign, leaving John Kennedy in interim charge of the team. But a new manager is expected to be brought in over the course of the next few months.

Phil Mac Giolla Bhain appears to have an update on the situation. He revealed on his Phil Mac Giolla Bhain website that he had been told by a source that Gutman, Klimala and Perez were allowed to leave on Howe’s say.

Howe has reportedly been involved in the latest Celtic departures

A massive question has been regarding how much power Howe would be given at Parkhead. The former Bournemouth manager appears to be a perfectionist and would surely want to give himself the best chance of succeeding if he does end up taking the Celtic job.

If this is a sign of things to come, it looks like Howe could have quite a lot of say on things. And if that helps the club in turning things around as quickly as possible, then it is the right decision.

To be honest, the club’s recent recruitment has not been great. While they have been linked with a lot of good players who have gone on to achieve big things, they have failed to get those deals over the line, Ivan Toney for example. On the other hand, they have signed players, either on loan or on a permanent basis, who have failed to make their mark at the club.

Thus, it might be time for the Hoops to rethink their strategy in the transfer market and Howe could end up playing a big role in that.
