As far as the 2020/21 season goes, Leigh Griffiths has divided the Celtic support more than most players.
However, he may be set to be given one last Parkhead lifeline. As reported by the Daily Mail (via Daily Record) Griffiths’ camp believe that his current contract situation won’t be resolved until a new manager is appointed, with the Hoops having the chance to extend his stay by 12 months.
This is positive news for the Scotland international, who has not been anywhere near the top of his game recently but could possibly get another chance to prove himself at Parkhead. Griffiths’ contract is due to expire in the summer of 2021, though the Hoops have the option to extend it for another year. As a result of the uncertainty surrounding his future, the frontman has been linked with the likes of Aberdeen and Hibernian in recent months.
Positionally, Celtic may face a major striker shortage come the summer transfer window. Patryk Klimala has completed a move to New York Red Bulls, whereas Odsonne Edouard is believed to be attracting interest from clubs like Arsenal and Leicester City. Albian Ajeti is also yet to prove himself for the Hoops.

Griffiths can play a big role for Celtic next season if he remains fit
Undoubtedly, Griffiths has been a reliable goal-scorer for Celtic through the years. 123 goals in 260 games during his time at Parkhead, according to stats from Transfermarkt, is proof of that.
When at the top of his game, he is one of the best players in Scotland. But he has had his fitness issues in recent times and has not featured much throughout the course of the campaign.
Giving the responsibility to make a decision regarding his future to the new manager would be a sensible move on the part of the club. At the end of the day, he will be the one who decides whether Griffiths plays or stays on the bench even if he remains at the club beyond this season.
