When Celtic signed Diego Laxalt from AC Milan on a season-long loan, it was seen as a major coup on the part of the Hoops. The Uruguayan had a lot of top level experience coming in and was expected to make his mark at the club.

It is safe to say that things have not turned out that way. Yes, he did make a great start to life at Parkhead and was perhaps even the best player at the club in his first month or so.

But he has failed to showcase consistency throughout the course of the campaign and as a result, he has been in and out of the team for some time now. And he has not shown enough to suggest that he can be the long-term solution to the Hoops’ problems at left-back.

As reported by Tuttosport (via Daily Record), Celtic will not look to do a permanent deal for Laxalt in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Celtic will reportedly not look to sign Laxalt in the summer

It is not hard to see why the Hoops might not be keen on a permanent move for Laxalt in the summer, considering the fact that AC Milan are expected to be looking for a decent transfer fee for him.

Laxalt has had his moments during his time at Celtic but they have been few and far between. And he has been another player who has failed to fill the void left behind by Kieran Tierney at left-back when he moved to Arsenal.

The Hoops are expected to undergo a massive overhaul in the summer and a new left-back will probably be near the top of their wishlist.

A new manager looks set to come in in the near future as well and it remains to be seen how the squad will look come next season, when a number of new faces are expected to arrive at Parkhead while many head for the exit. Amidst all this uncertainty, it is safe to say one thing, exciting times are ahead.
