It is safe to say that the Eddie Howe to Celtic saga has had quite a few twists and turns over the past several months.

Several weeks ago, it was believed that Howe was days away from being appointed as the club’s manager. Of course, almost a month has come and gone since then but the appointment is yet to be made.

Also, there has not been a lot of news regarding the matter in recent days. Of course, there is always two ways to look at it. Some would say no news is good news while others might differ on that view.

But now there does appear to be a very positive update on the matter after all. Howe appears to be on the brink of being appointed as the club’s next manger. As reported by the Daily Mail (via Glasgow Live), there has been progress regarding his backroom staff. Mark Burchill could have a role to play alongside Simon Weatherstone and Stephen Purches.

Is Howe the man to take Celtic back to the top of Scottish football?

Howe is very highly rated for the work that he did at Bournemouth over his two stints at the club. He took them from the relegation zone of League Two to the Premier League in a relatively short span of time and then kept them in the top flight for five straight seasons. That is an impressive achievement to say the least.

Along the way, his side played attacking football as well, which is another reason why he is an attractive option for the Parkhead job.

So, if given the right players, there is no reason he could not take the club back to the top of Scottish football. But at the end of the day, he is not a magician and a lot will depend on the recruitment that the club make over the course of the next several months.
