For quite some time now, Eddie Howe has appeared to be the frontrunner to be the next Celtic manager. But doubts have appeared surrounding the situation as it has continued to drag on.
At one point of time, it was believed that Howe was days away from being announced as the club’s next manager. Weeks have come and gone since then, yet an appointment is yet to be made.
Thus, it is only natural that a lot of fans are questioning whether the Howe move will ultimately take place or not. Also, the fact that he has been linked with multiple Premier League clubs recently means that there are further doubts.
Alan Nixon has given an update on the Celtic managerial situation though when asked on Twitter. And it looks like the club are still targeting Howe and not looking elsewhere. The journalist tweeted out:
Howe is stalling. But at least there’s a legit reason. Even if you do wonder. Keane doesn’t think he gets it. No sign of Celtic going elsewhere yet. But it’s dragging. Need director of football sorted. https://t.co/172Rp0dNVm

Can Celtic make the Howe appointment?
Howe is very highly-rated from his time in England as a manager, where he took Bournemouth from the relegation zone of League Two to the Premier League and kept them there for five straight seasons.
As a result, it should not come as a surprise that he has been linked with Premier League sides. Many have even touted him to be a manager of the England national team in the future.
Now, while the Parkhead move has not materialised yet, there is nothing to suggest that it is off the table. On the contrary, it makes sense for the club to not appoint him near the end of the season with no silverware left to play for anymore.
Instead, he can come in at the end of the campaign and make a fresh start. Also, that will give him the chance to bring in players that he wants and rebuild the squad in his own vision.
Now, this does not mean that the move will definitely happen. But you can see why it has not yet.
