Jesse Marsch was heavily linked with a move to Celtic a month or so ago. As reported by BBC, he even admitted that the links to The Hoops were ‘an honour’.

The American manager has emerged as one of the most promising managers in Europe over the past few years. After serving as an assistant to Ralf Rangnick at RB Leipzig, he took over as manager at RB Salzburg and has been very impressive since then, winning the League and Cup double last season.

Naturally he has been linked with a move away with a number of clubs reportedly interested. While the Bundesliga appears to be his most likely next destination, the name of Celtic has been brought up on a number of occasions as well.

But with a little over a year still left on his RB Salzburg contract, not much progress appears to have been made regarding a move as it was always felt that he would remain at the Austrian club next season. That does not appear to be necessarily the case though. As reported by the Daily Record, RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund said:

"“He has a quiet environment, loves working with young players. He has a lot of fun in Salzburg, his family feels good, we are successful.“On the other hand, I cannot say with one hundred percent (certainty) that he will be my coach next year.“No club has registered (their interest) yet. Jesse is good here, but we know that he only has a one-year contract. Some clubs have their eyes on him.”"

Could a move to Celtic still be on the cards for Marsch?

There is no doubt that someone like Marsch would tick a lot of boxes regarding what Celtic are looking for in their next manager. But at this point, it looks unlikely that the club will make a move for him if they have not registered their interest yet.

At this point of time, Eddie Howe appears to remain the frontrunner in the race to be the next manager of the Hoops.

There is some doubt regarding that move as well though. It was believed that the former Bournemouth manager was closing in on an appointment weeks ago but not much new has emerged since then. Although it is very possible that both parties are waiting till the end of the season in order to start on a fresh note after a disappointing campaign.
