It has not been long since Jose Mourinho was shown the exit door by Tottenham Hotspur. But already, he has been linked with a number of clubs. One of them is Celtic.

It is no secret that the Hoops are in search of a new manager in the summer following a disappointing campaign which is set to see them finish without a trophy and with John Kennedy in interim charge of the club.

They have been linked with a number of high profile names like Rafa Benitez, Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard, Jesse Marsch and others in the recent past. But even then, the Mourinho rumours seemed like mere speculation with not much chance of IT actually happening.

But now, it looks like the club have actually made contact with the Portuguese manager. While speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Duncan Castles said:

"“My information is that the first of those approaches came from Celtic Football Club who are in need of significant managerial change and are in need of a change of fortune to get themselves back on top of the heap in Scotland after Steven Gerrard guided Rangers to the Scottish title by a significant margin.“My understanding is that his response to that approach from Celtic – not ready to coach now. There have been other offers.”"

Could Celtic pull off a Mourinho appointment?

First of all, lets just say that Mourinho is one of the most accomplished managers of all time and it would be a massive coup on the part of Celtic if they can pull off an appointment. And while he might not be ready to coach now, near the end of the season, that could very well change in the summer.

Of course, for that to happen, the Portuguese manager will have to lower his astronomical wages quite a bit. It is believed that he was on around £15 million per year at Tottenham Hotspur. It is safe to say that the Hoops could not go anywhere near matching that.

There are certain things about the role that could attract Mourinho though. He has been linked with the likes of AS Roma and Valencia as well but it is at Celtic that he will have the biggest chance of winning trophies on a consistent basis.

Maybe that is what he could be looking for at this stage of his career, to go somewhere where he can win silverware consistently to get his mojo back after a couple of underwhelming managerial stints by his own high standards.
