Celtic are expected to bring in a number of players over the course of the next few months as the club look at a massive summer rebuild.

One of the positions that they will definitely need to strengthen in is at centre-back. The Hoops’ defence has been a major worry this season as they have conceded many more goals that they would have liked to.

While the Rangers have conceded just 12 goals in the Premiership till now, Celtic have conceded more than twice that, 25. Clearly this is an area that they must improve in if they are to close down the gap next season and hopefully challenge for the title.

Despite that, not many fans would have expected them to make a €5 million bid for a teenager but it looks like that is exactly what has happened although the bid was ultimately rejected. Nicolo Schira tweeted out that the Hoops are after Hajduk Split’s Mario Vuskovic and have even had an official bid rejected by the Croatian club:

Celtic linked with Vuskovic

Vuskovic has emerged as one of the most promising young defenders in Croatian football this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old has made 24 appearances this season, scoring and assisting once each.

The fact that he has been linked with the likes of Torino and Napoli shows how highly he is rated and it is certainly an ambitious move on the part of the Hoops to make a €5 million bid for the young defender despite the fact that it was pushed back by the Croatian side.

The fact that Kristoffer Ajer has been linked with a summer exit with just a year left on his contract at that point of time makes it even more important for Celtic to sign a defender.

Could Vuskovic turn out to be the man to fill that possible void? That remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, it is promising to see the club go after players with his potential.
