It has been quite some time since Eddie Howe is being linked with the Parkhead job and at one point, it had looked like he was closing in on a Celtic move. But since then, nothing much new has cropped up.

Now, there are two ways to look at it. Some might say that no news is good news. On the other hand, it might be just that nothing new has actually developed regarding the appointment and so there has been nothing to report about it.

It is safe to say that the majority of the fans would be happy if the club could get a deal for Howe done. But the longer this saga drags on, the more questions will be asked and fears would arise regarding the move not happening after all. At the end of the day, that is perhaps natural since we are near the end of the current season.

As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie believes that Howe might no longer want the Parkhead move as he said:

"“I don’t know what’s going on but in my opinion, he doesn’t want it any more. If he did then he’d be here.”"

Is Howe to Celtic off the table?

There is no denying the fact that Howe is one of the most highly rated free agent managers in football right now. In fact, many have touted him to be a future England national team manager and he has been linked with multiple Premier League clubs recently as well.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic would want him at the club and why it would be a blow if the move did not take place after months of rumours and speculation.

But at the end of the day, the board must be prepared for every scenario, including Howe not arriving at Parkhead. As a result, they must have alternative managerial targets picked out.

Ultimately, the aim should be to bring in a manager who can turn things around at the club and have them challenging for titles once again, as soon as possible.
