A number of changes are expected at Celtic over the course of the next few months as the club aim to return to the top of Scottish football following a disappointing campaign which will see them finish without a trophy.

A new manager is expected to be brought in along with a number of players, with a number of the club’s first-team stars like Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie being linked with moves away with only a year left on their current deals at the end of the season. Long-time captain Scott Brown is set to depart for Aberdeen as well.

Amidst all this, the club are expected to bring in a Director of Football. Names like Fergal Harkin and Matteo Tognozzi have been heavily linked with the role over the past several months. But Charlie Nicholas believes that Gordon Strachan could be in the running as well.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Nicholas told his Express column:

"“The way Gordon Strachan has been talking, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a role for him at Celtic.“If the club is assessing potential candidates for a technical director or director of football then the likelihood is that he will be under consideration.“Strachan seems to be the mouthpiece for Celtic just now.“He is the one who is coming out in the media and really defending the club.”"

Could Strachan be in the running for the Celtic Director of Football role?

At this point of time, this is just speculation. At the end of the day, Strachan managed the club to a lot of success over a four year period. And thus it should not come as a surprise if he does defend the Hoops in public.

Strachan is the technical director of Dundee at this point of time, so he does have experience in a similar role though.

But at this moment of time, there is no reason to think that Strachan could be in the running for the job. There have not been many rumours which have suggested otherwise.

Instead, Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes could turn out to be a possible option as there is the belief that Eddie Howe would want him at Parkhead if he becomes the club’s next manager.
