It is no secret that Celtic are looking to bring in a new manager at this point of time. After Neil Lennon stepped down from his role in February, John Kennedy was put in interim charge of the team.

There was a chance that Kennedy could have been handed the role on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign if he was able to guide the team to a strong finish to the season and the Scottish Cup. But after their elimination from the competition in the fourth round at the hands of the Rangers, it looks very unlikely that he will be the manager of the club come next season.

One man who has been heavily linked with the role in recent months is Roy Keane. But after the emergence of the Eddie Howe rumours, his name has faded into the background over the past couple of weeks. There is a growing feeling that Keane won’t be given the Parkhead job.

But as reported by Football Insider, Keane is back in the frame to be the club’s next manager following developments behind the scenes. There appears to be a growing support from within the boardroom for him.

Could Keane be the man for the Celtic job?

Although Keane was one of the most successful players of his generation, he has failed to find similar success as a manager.

Till now, he has only managed Sunderland and Ipswich Town, and both of those roles were over a decade ago. Since then, he has served as the assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland national team, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

While it is very possible that he might have improved significantly since his first run, it would be a massive risk on the part of Celtic to appoint him as the manager, especially considering the massive rebuild that is set to take place at Parkhead over the next few months.
