It is no secret that Celtic are set to make a number of changes at the club over the course of the next couple of months as they aim to return to the top of the Scottish game once again. And one of the biggest decisions they might have to make would be regarding their next manager.
Neil Lennon stepped down from his role in February, amidst a disappointing campaign. Since then, John Kennedy has been serving as the interim manager of the Hoops.
Eddie Howe has been linked with the Parkhead job over the past few months and it was looking like the former Bournemouth manager was closing in on an appointment. Things have gone quiet regarding the move since then though and now it looks unlikely that any new manager will arrive before the end of the season.
Gordon Strachan believes that the longer there is uncertainty surrounding the role, the stronger Kennedy’s case will be when it comes to be handed the job on a permanent basis. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he told Football Pass UK:
"“The four performances since he took over people might say there were a couple of draws in there, but you look at the performances and you look at the number of chances they have made. That would be John’s argument, that the team are making more chances.“John, there is no doubt about it, would like the job.“Anybody who I’ve spoken to about the Celtic job has said it’s a job you must try if you ever get offered it.“The longer the season goes on without any managerial clarity it might be stronger for John.”"

Could Kennedy be handed the Celtic job on a permanent basis?
At this point of time, it looks unlikely that Kennedy will be handed the Parkhead job on a permanent basis but as we all know, things can change very quickly in football.
A lot will depend on the results till the end of the season, if Kennedy remains in interim charge until then. If he can guide the Hoops to a strong finish to the league campaign and help deliver the Scottish Cup as well, then he would surely be in the running for the role.
That is for the future though. For now, the focus should on tomorrow’s game against the Rangers. If Celtic are to win the Scottish Cup and create more history, they will have to get past Steven Gerrard’s side, something they have failed to do till now this season.
