Celtic are expected to make a few waves in the upcoming summer transfer window. After a disappointing campaign that saw them lose the Premiership title race to the Rangers with six games to spare and underperform in other competitions as well, the club will be eager to bounce back next season.
The transfer window will provide a great opportunity to do that. A number of players like Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie are being linked with moves away and the club must bring in suitable replacements for them.
One other area of need for the club is goalkeeper. The club signed Vasilis Barkas from AEK Athens last summer for a transfer fee believed to be around £4.5 million. Till now though, he has failed to find his feet at the club.
He has been out of the first-team picture in recent times. Both Scott Bain and Connor Hazard have also been given runs in the first-team, but none of the three have managed to convince that they could be the long-term solution between the sticks. As a result, the club will be expected to bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer and Paul Robinson believes Tom Heaton would be ‘perfect’. He told Football Insider:
"“Whoever comes in at Celtic, one of their first tasks will be to sign a new number one.“Tom Heaton is a possibility. Logistically, would he be willing to move to Glasgow? I’m not sure. He might be very settled with his family.“It would be a huge opportunity for him to play at one of the biggest European clubs though. Could he turn that opportunity down?“It would be a great signing for Celtic. Heaton would be a great signing for any club. He is a top-class, reliable goalkeeper who would be perfect for Celtic next season.”"

Could Celtic sign Heaton in the summer?
Heaton has had a good career in the Premier League. He started out at Manchester United but never made an appearance for the senior side, spending the majority of the time out on loan.
Since then, he has represented the likes of Burnley and Aston Villa in the Premier League though. But this season, he has lost his place in the team to Emiliano Martinez and with his contract running out at the end of the current campaign, he looks likely to become a free agent this summer.
But at 35 years of age, Heaton most likely would not be a long-term solution for the club either. And while he could be a shrewd signing, the club’s search for a goalkeeper would probably still continue.
