It is safe to say that Eddie Howe has been the biggest topic of discussion among Celtic fans over the past couple of weeks.

At one point of time, it was looking like the former Bournemouth manager was headed to Parkhead and it was only a matter of time before the appointment was made. Things do not appear to be as straightforward though.

In fact, there are fears that the move might not happen after all. And these fears will only grow the longer the saga drags on. The fact that he has been linked with other Premier League clubs recently as well have not helped in that regard.

Former Rangers manager, Alex McLeish, believes that the fans will forgive the club for all the waiting even if the Howe move ultimately takes place in a month or two. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“Celtic fans are continuously impatient over who’s going to be the new manager. If they see that maybe in a month or two Howe has finally come then I’m sure they’ll be delighted. They will forgive Celtic for all the waiting time that had to happen.“We’ve seen these things happen a lot. What’s out in the ether there is Eddie’s going to wait until the summer to make a decision. Does that mean he’s got options? Again, he’s possibly waiting to see the Premier League and how it finishes.”"

Should Celtic wait for Howe or move on?

Now, there are two ways to look at the Howe situation. On one hand, the club must bring in a manager as soon as possible as they face a massive overhaul and must prepare for the UEFA Champions League qualifying phase as well.

Thus, if the Howe move fails to materialise in the near future, many believe they should turn their attention towards alternative managerial targets.

But on the other hand, Howe is without doubt one of the best free agent managers available and he could certainly be someone worth waiting for.

While he has never won a title in the top flight, he did spectacularly to take Bournemouth from the League Two to the Premier League over his two stints at the club and then kept them there for five seasons. Along the way, his side played some great football as well, which makes him even more attractive and suitable for the Parkhead job.
