Celtic have had their worries this season all across the pitch as they have endured a very disappointing season by their own high standards. And it is perhaps the defence, which has been their biggest worry.

The Hoops have conceded goals at an alarming rate as their defenders have struggled for both form and fitness. One man who has managed to shine away on loan though is Jack Hendry.

The Scottish international struggled for minutes under Neil Lennon and was sent out on loan to Belgian side KV Oostende at the start of the campaign. He has found his feet there and is back in the national team fold as a result of his performances this season.

Naturally, he is believed to be wanted back at Oostende, who have an option to buy in his loan deal. But Hendry’s recent comments do appear to hint at a possible return to Parkhead. While speaking on The Go Radio Football Show and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, he said:

"“I was brought to Celtic for a reason and it didn’t pan out the way I wanted, but sometimes that’s just football. I definitely feel I could have an impact at Celtic.“Obviously it has been difficult to watch at times this season but football is football and it has worked out playing for Oostende against some really top teams and really top strikers. It’s really brought my development on a lot.”"

He also reiterated that he still has a year left on his contract with The Hoops:

"“I have still got a year left at Celtic so I’m not going to turn down any opportunity that arises.”"

Does Hendry have a future at Celtic?

The Hoops could certainly do with a defender next season. Kristoffer Ajer, who has been the club’s best defender this season by some distance, is being linked with a move away with just a year left on his contract at the end of this season.

Shane Duffy’s season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion is also set to come to an end, although he does not appear to be in the first-team picture at the moment. And Christopher Jullien is also expected to spend the start of the season on the sidelines, out with an injury.

Thus, it might not be a bad idea to bring back a player like Hendry, who has impressed this season and perhaps was not given enough chances during his time at the club to show his true quality.
