Celtic are expected to make a few waves in the upcoming summer transfer window. The club are coming off the back of a very disappointing campaign which saw them lose the Premiership title race to the Rangers while underperforming massively in other competitions as well.

As a result, it looks like a massive overhaul at Parkhead could very well be on the horizon. Peter Lawwell is set to retire from his role and will be replaced by Dominic McKay. A new manager and a Director of Football are expected to be brought in as well.

There will be changes on the pitch as well. Long-time captain Scott Brown is set to leave for Aberdeen at the end of the season. And a number of other players have been linked with summer exits as well.

Naturally, they should be replaced by new faces. But could one of the summer incomings be someone who has already been on loan at the club for a couple of seasons in the form of Mohamed Elyounoussi. Kevin Phillips believes that a move for the Norwegian international makes a lot of sense for the Hoops. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“If Celtic want to challenge next season I think it would be in their interest to sign Elyounoussi permanently.“He is a player who knows the club, he is settled, can score goals, so why would you not push the boat out and try and sign the player?“Let’s not forget that there will be crowds back in that stadium next year. It’s an incredible place to play so I would imagine he’d like to stay.“From a Celtic point of view, it is a no-brainer for me. Go and get him signed. Get it sorted out early and then you can go and concentrate on other areas.“He has proven he can score goals in Scotland and Celtic will need him next season if they want to challenge for the title.”"

Elyounoussi has impressed immensely for Celtic this season

Elyounoussi has been in and out of the first-team throughout the course of the season. But when he has been on the pitch, he has been very impressive to say the least.

His brace against Livingston yesterday meant that he has scored 10 goals in the Premiership this season. And he is certainly an option that the club can do with having in their ranks moving forward. Of course, any future move will depend on Southampton and the kind of transfer fee that they are looking for.

One thing is for sure though, the Hoops must target a move for Elyounoussi in the summer and if the opportunity is there to sign him on a permanent basis, they should try to make it happen.
