There is a lot of confusion surrounding the Celtic managerial situation at the moment. The club are expected to bring in a new manager in the summer. And until a few days ago, it had looked like the Hoops had got their man and Eddie Howe was destined to be the next manager.

Things have changed since though. It has emerged that Howe is planning to remain out of management at least till the summer and an agreement is not close. As a result, doubts have been raised regarding his possible move to Parkhead.

The fact that he has been linked with Premier League clubs as well have just added to those doubts. And now, there is a feeling that the club should be prepared for the worst case scenario in case the former Bournemouth manager does not take over at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has provided a positive update regarding this as he believes that the club are prepared if the Howe appointment fails to transpire. As reported by Football Insider, he said:

"“There are names pinging about all over the place up here, they don’t know who’s coming or going.“But if Howe says no, they haven’t put all their eggs in one basket and I’m told by my sources if they have to start again, they can.“It’s got to be someone who knows what they’re doing, they can’t take risks with this new manager.”"

Howe remains the favourite to become the next Celtic manager

While doubts may have cropped up over the past couple of days, Howe remains the favourite to take over at Parkhead.

Other names like former Borussia Dortmund manager, Lucian Favre, have been mentioned as well as it looks like the club have alternative targets as well.

This is great news to be honest. It is always good to be prepared for all situations as things can change very quickly in football. But it might be a bit too early to give up hope on the Howe appointment. It is not surprising that he would not be keen to take over the side near the end of the season with not much left to play for and instead wait until the summer to have a fresh start.
