After months of speculation, recent rumours had indicated that Celtic were finally closing in on a new manager in the form of Eddie Howe. And there were suggestions that the move was close and the appointment could possibly be made over the next week or so.

But as it turns out things might not be as close as first expected. At the end of the day, Howe has a huge reputation in England due to the work that he did with Bournemouth and as a result, he should not have a lack of suitors for his next job in football.

There has also been some news regarding him wanting to bring Bournemouth Technical Director, Richard Hughes, with him to Parkhead. Of course, all these things will take time to work over.

And Sami Mokbel tweeted out comments from Howe’s representative today, which say that talks of any deal being close are very premature and he still plans to remain out of management till the summer at least:

This is a blow for Celtic

Naturally, this will be a massive blow to Celtic and the fans, as there was the feeling that the move was getting very close and could even be announced over the next week or so.

Of course, this does not mean that a move to Parkhead is off the table but it does suggest that even if it happens, it is likely that Howe will arrive at the end of the season. Although there has been a feeling already that that could have been the case after all.

The Hoops have already lost out in all competitions other than the Scottish Cup and as a result, any new manager would probably want a fresh start from the summer. Thus, this development should not be surprising. One would hope though that the club are ultimately able to get a deal over the line for Howe because he is a top manager who can turn things around for the Hoops.
