Celtic had the chance to make history this season with 10IAR on the line. But ultimately, it all went wrong for the Hoops.

They lost the Premiership title race to the Rangers with six games to spare and are now facing a massive overhaul through the course of the summer. A new manager is expected to be brought in along with a number of new players.

There are going to be changes behind the scenes as well with Peter Lawwell set to retire after 17 years at Parkhead and will be replaced by the incoming Dominic McKay. The club are being linked with the appointment of a director of football as well.

Amidst all this, John Mjallby has revealed that Neil Lennon was interested in bringing him back to the club but the move ultimately fizzled out. While speaking on The Celtic Huddle Podcast and as reported by the Glasgow Times, he said:

"“He was interested to try and bring me on board, but that fizzled out a wee bit which was fine.”"

Could things have turned out differently for Celtic?

At the end of the day, this season will always be a regret in the eyes of everyone related with the club. It had taken almost a decade to bring things to this point only for it to fall apart at the final step.

Could things have turned out differently if Mjallby was at the club?

He had a very successful spell at Parkhead as a player and then served as the assistant manager to Neil Lennon during his first stint as the Celtic manager. Thus, could his presence in the dugout have had an effect on results on the pitch this season?

Unfortunately, that is something that we can never definitely know for sure but only speculate upon. What is done is done though and the focus should now be on the future and returning to the top of Scottish football as soon as possible by winning back the Premiership title.
