While Celtic fans wait expectantly and perhaps nervously, for news regarding the appointment of a new manager, they could end up losing one of their most in-form players of this season in the summer.

Scott Brown revealed recently that the lack of clarity over a manager going forward helped him make a decision to leave the club at the end of the season in order to join Aberdeen in a player-coach role as reported by Glasgow Live. And now, another important player could be on his way out of Parkhead although he is only on a loan deal at the moment.

Mohamed Elyounoussi has spent the last couple of seasons on loan at Celtic. And when on the pitch, he has delivered good performances on a number of occasions.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, in 39 appearances this season, he has scored 15 goals and provided 6 assists. As a result, he has been one of the best players for the Hoops in what has been a disappointing season for the club overall.

Could Elyounoussi end up leaving Celtic?

Elyounoussi is only on loan currently and so a return to Southampton will take place unless a permanent move or an extension of the loan is agreed. At the end of last season, the Hoops were very quick to extend his loan deal for another campaign but the same might not happen this time around.

According to The Athletic and as reported by the Daily Record , he looks set to be given the chance to impress Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, as he wants to take another look at him, and fill a left-sided gap in their squad during pre-season.

While he has been linked with a permanent move to the Hoops recently because of his performances this season, the player looks set to return to the Saints and get immersed into their pre-season campaign before his future is sorted. At that point a move back to the Hoops is still possible but perhaps less likely.

We’ve seen mixed performances from the player through his time at Parkhead. But when on form, he has been impressive with important goals and assists to his name. He is the second top scorer this season despite being in and out of the side.

Elyounoussi is definitely a skilful player who can add value to the team. He should be in consideration for a permanent deal, but as is always the case, it’ll depend on the transfer fee. It is unlikely that any decision will be taken before a new manager is in place at Parkhead and it might be off the table altogether if he manages to impress at Southampton during their pre-season.
