He may have had a lot of critics over the years but Peter Lawwell did negotiate a good number of sell-on fees in his time with the club. As another former Celtic star shone in midweek, the Hoops could be set for a massive future sell-on fee if a transfer does take place.
Scotland’s World Cup qualifying campaign ended with a comfortable 4-0 win at home over the Faroe Islands. Manager Steve Clarke played Liverpool’s Andy Robertson at left-back but seeing the need to also include the in-form Kieran Tierney in his side, the Arsenal man was featured as a left centre-back.
You might think that would have been for Tierney’s defensive strengths, but that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, a lot of the focus after the game was on his excellent performance on the other end of the pitch and his 3 assists.
A cut-back and a cross from left wing for John McGinn’s two goals and another assist for Che Adams’ first Scotland goal. Tierney spent a lot of the match overlapping Robertson on the left flank, quite unusual for a left centre-back!

Could the former Celtic man become the most expensive defender in the world?
Amongst those raving about Tierney’s performance was Pat Nevin, a former Scotland international, adding his views about the player’s future as reported by The Scottish Sun:
"“I don’t think there’s a better left-sided attacking defensive player in the world right now. No one springs to mind that I would pick ahead of him. He’s the best.“Even when he was at Celtic, and Andy Robertson was winning the Champions League with Liverpool, I still thought Tierney was the better player.”"
Nevin believes that the Arsenal player will attract attention from other top clubs and even predicted that he could soon become the world’s most expensive defender, which would mean surpassing the £80 million fee Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire:
"“KT could go anywhere with his career, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he became the world’s most expensive defender.”"
That of course would mean a massive sell-on fee for the Hoops. It is believed that they have a 15% sell-on clause over whatever profit Arsenal make from his departure, which is over the £25 million they shelled out to sign him from Celtic.
