Celtic are expected to appoint a new manager over the next few months as they aim to bounce back from this disappointing campaign and challenge for the Premiership title next season.

It is not going to be an easy task though. Especially with the number of changes that are expected to take place at Parkhead. It is not only a new manager that is expected to come in but a number of new players as well. A director of football might also be appointed while Dominic McKay replaces Peter Lawwell, who will be retiring after 17 years at the club. And long-time captain, Scott Brown, is also set to join Aberdeen in a player-coach role next season.

Thus, it will take a brilliant manager to guide the club through all of this and deliver trophies. And a wide variety of names have been linked with the Parkhead job over the past few months.

One of the most interesting of them is Eddie Howe. But are they just rumours or are the club actually looking at the former Bournemouth manager as a potential candidate? Journalist Alan Nixon has described him as a ‘serious candidate’ on Twitter:

Howe could be a brilliant manager at Celtic

It is true that Howe has never won a trophy in the top division. But that does not make him a bad manager. On the contrary, his achievements are very impressive when you look at them closely.

Over two stints at the club, he took Bournemouth from League Two to the Premier League and kept them there for five seasons. And not just that, when he first took over as the manager of the club, they were in the League Two relegation zone. An incredible achievement when you think about it.

If Celtic can bring him to Parkhead, it should be considered a major coup on the part of the Hoops. And him being described as a ‘serious candidate’ is very promising news.
