What does the next Celtic manager need to have?

Celtic are expected to bring in a new manager in the summer. But what does he need to succeed at the club at this point of time?

That is certainly a very important question to ask right now because next season is going to be unlike any other in recent memory for the Hoops.

It has already been confirmed that Scott Brown will be ending his 14-year stay at Parkhead to join Aberdeen in a player-coach role. Peter Lawwell is set to retire as well after 17 years at the club and will be replaced by the incoming Dominic McKay. A number of first-team stars like Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie are being linked with moves away as well.

Thus, it will be a summer of change at the club. And the Hoops will need a very good manager to not only keep them competitive next season but also compete for titles as well.

The next Celtic manager has a tough task on his hands

It is always tough for any manager at Celtic. It is a club that is always expected to win in domestic competition and do well in Europe.

And it will be even more difficult for whoever the next manager is, because they will have to deliver the goods in the middle of a transitional season.

After losing the Premiership title to the Rangers with 6 games to spare, the club will be keen to bounce back as soon as possible. That will be much harder said than done though. Steven Gerrard will have a set team at his disposal but the same cannot be said of the Hoops’ next manager.

A wide variety of names have been linked with the job over the course of the past several months. Eddie Howe, Chris Wilder, Enzo Maresca, Frank Lampard, Roy Keane, Rafa Benitez and many other names have been floated.

But whoever it ends up being has to be capable of delivering under pressure while also being tactically flexible. The ability to adjust quickly will be a massive positive as well.
