After the season that they have endured, it is safe to say that there are a number of areas in Celtic’s squad that need strengthening in the summer transfer window. And one area that needs immediate reinforcement is defence.

The Hoops have had their problems at the back through the course of the season. Shane Duffy failed to settle down at Parkhead following his arrival on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Christopher Jullien has had to deal with a couple of long-term injuries and is set to miss the rest of the season. And this has left the team exposed at the back.

With Kristoffer Ajer also being linked with a move away from Parkhead in the summer, a new centre-back should be on top of the club’s wishlist. And one man who could prove to be the answer for them is Liverpool’s Ben Davies.

Celtic were heavily linked with the former Preston North End defender and were even close to agreeing a pre-contract with him. But the Premier League giants swooped in at the last moment and signed him on a permanent basis.

Celtic should make a summer move for Davies

Now, there is no doubt that Davies is a good player. He has already shown that in the Championship. But it always felt like he was an emergence signing on the part of Liverpool.

Despite the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip being out injured, he is yet to play a single minute of football for Jurgen Klopp’s side. And according to BBC, the Premier League champions are now looking at a potential move for Ibrahima Konate in the summer.

Naturally, that would push Davies further down the pecking order at Anfield. As a result, it would not be a surprise if Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for him in the summer. And if that is the case, the Hoops must definitely test their resolve with a bid.
