A number of Celtic stars are expected to depart Parkhead in the summer as their contracts enter their final year. As a result, the club might not have any other option but to let them leave this summer or see them walk out for free a season later.

Of course, this could mean that they would have to accept cut-price bids. One such player is Kristoffer Ajer.

The Norwegian has been one of the most consistent players for the Hoops this season despite featuring in a backline that has struggled. But at the end of the current campaign, he will only have a year left on his contract. Thus, he is someone who has been constantly linked with a move away from Parkhead.

And as reported by the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are preparing an £8 million bid for Ajer. Of course, if they are able to sign him for that transfer fee, it would be considered a massive bargain.

Ajer looks set to leave Celtic in the summer

It was not too long ago that Ajer was being linked with a move to AC Milan. But those rumours have disappeared since then.

Even then, there should not be any lack of interest in the 22-year-old if he did end up leaving Celtic in the summer. He is one of the most talented players in the team right now, with potential to improve even further. Naturally, the club will be hoping to get a transfer fee significantly higher than the £8 million that Newcastle United are reportedly set to offer for him.

But you can never be sure in the current financial climate in the midst of a global pandemic. And with just a year left on his contract at the end of this season, they might be forced to let him leave for a bargain fee.
