Celtic are expected to bring in a new manager in the summer. After a disappointing campaign, they will have to bounce back in the upcoming season and hopefully challenge for the Premiership title once again.

This task will be even more difficult considering the fact that a major overhaul is set to take place at the club over the next few months and in many ways, the following one could prove to be a transitional season with a number of changes both on and off the pitch.

Under such circumstances, you would feel that the Hoops need an experienced manager, who has seen it all and done it all through the course of his career, in order to steady the ship. This makes their recent links to Roy Keane a bit surprising to say the least.

Over the past several weeks, the Manchester United legend has emerged as one of the favourites to be the next Celtic manager. And according to the Daily Mail, the club have held talks with him regarding the role. But for the time being, he looks like just one of the candidates for the Parkhead job.

Can Keane be the man for the Celtic job?

While there is no doubt that Keane was one of the best players of his generation, he has not been as successful as a manager.

In fact, Sunderland and Ipswich Town are the only two clubs that he has managed till now and the last one of those roles was over a decade ago. Since then, he has served as assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland national team, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

Thus, it will be a massive risk on the part of Celtic if they do decide to appoint him as the manager of the club. Of course, Nicky Butt leaving his role at Manchester United has led to rumours that he could be headed to Parkhead to be Keane’s number two.

It is worth noting that a number of other names have been linked with the job over the past several months as well.
