So far John Kennedy’s team selections and the performances under him haven’t shown a lot different from Neil Lennon’s time in charge of Celtic.

We’ve already questioned whether he has failed his managerial audition at the club? And there are several other signs that he is repeating the Lennon approach with very few changes being made ever since the Northern Irishman stepped down from his role last month.

Kennedy was an international defender. Thus, you would feel that under him, the team’s defence would improve significantly – an area that has been their weakness this season. That has not been the case though.

Instead, things have remained pretty much the same at the back. The goal they conceded against the Rangers is a perfect example of that. With the side cruising, they managed to give away a cheap corner and then failed to defend it properly.

Not a lot has changed at Celtic since Lennon stepped down

Kennedy’s substitutions against the Rangers also left a lot to be desired. They were late and in the end ineffective.

Now, it is true that Kennedy is working with exactly the same squad. And there is not a lot of depth in a number of positions. But even then, you have to feel that he could have done more to change things up in the second half of the game.

If Kennedy was brought in to hold the fort, keep things going and make sure that the club are competitive until the end of the season, then job done. But that won’t help him get the managerial role on a permanent basis though. That is if the opportunity was ever there in the first place.

At this point of time, it does look like the club will bring in a new manager in the summer, with a number of names being linked with the Parkhead job.
