Celtic have been linked with a number of potential candidates over the past few months, following the departure of Neil Lennon. Although John Kennedy is currently in interim charge of the team, the club are expected to bring in a new manager over the course of the summer.
One man who has been linked with the role is Roy Keane. The Manchester United legend was last the manager of a club over a decade ago, when he was at Ipswich Town. He has served as an assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest since then but never led a team on his own.
That has not stopped him from being linked with the Hoops though. And those rumours have only grown, after Nicky Butt left his role as the head of first-team development at Manchester United.
Manchester United’s official website confirmed that he was leaving for a new challenge. And there have been some rumours speculating that he could end up being the assistant manager to Keane at Parkhead.

Could Keane really be the next Celtic manager?
It is safe to say that it would be a massive risk on the part of Celtic to appoint Keane as the manager at this point of time.
The club are facing a massive rebuild in the summer and need to bounce back as quickly as well, after losing the Premiership title to the Rangers this season. This kind of a task will need someone with a lot of experience. On the other hand, Keane has only ever had two managerial jobs, at Sunderland and Ipswich Town, and the last one of them was over a decade ago.
Could Butt leaving Manchester United be a signal that he is headed to Parkhead to reunite with Keane? That remains to be seen. But for the time being, it is best to take the rumours with a pinch of salt.
