As the rumours continue to grow, there are now genuine fears that Scott Brown could be headed for the Celtic exit and join Aberdeen in a player-coach role. And the Hoops must convince the long-term captain to remain at Parkhead for at least another season.
Yes, it is true that he is 35 years of age and the club must start preparing to replace him on the pitch. In Ismaila Soro, they have a pretty good player who can probably do that. But off it, Brown is irreplaceable.
He has lifted one title after another as the captain of the club and at this stage, they’ll be needing their leader more than ever, as they stare at a summer rebuild and a transitional season. As a result, the Hoops need Brown’s years of experience to get them through this phase.
In Callum McGregor, they have a player who can take the armband from Brown. But off the pitch, the captain remains as important as ever.

Can Celtic keep Brown?
Rumours are circulating that Brown could be headed to Aberdeen as the assistant manager to Stephen Glass, who was announced as the new manager of the club today. But it is believed that he will continue to play as well.
If that does happen, it will see Brown’s illustrious and trophy laden 14-year Celtic career come to an end and in a sad manner, the season after losing the Premiership title to the Rangers with 10IAR on the line.
Is it the idea of getting into coaching that appeals to Brown at this stage of his career? If that is the case, should the Hoops offer him a similar role?
That will probably depend on who the next manager of the club is. But one thing is for sure. Next season will be a lot more difficult if Brown does decide to leave.
