Celtic are expected to bring in a number of players over the course of the next few months, as they aim to rebuild the club and hopefully challenge for the Premiership next season after losing out in the title race with six games to spare this time around.

One area that needs immediate reinforcements in is defence. The Hoops’ defence has been extremely shaky this season, which was visible even today when they conceded a goal against the Rangers that was easily avoidable.

Now, with Kristoffer Ajer being linked with a move away, Shane Duffy’s loan spell set to come to an end and Christopher Jullien expected to be out with an injury for the foreseeable future, the club will have to bring in defenders in the summer. And one of them could turn out to be Declan Gallagher.

According to TEAMtalk, the Hoops are ready to make a move for the 30-year-old, whose contract with Motherwell is set to expire at the end of the season.

Celtic reportedly ready to make move for Gallagher

Gallagher has surely been a late bloomer. It was only in 2019 that he made his international debut for the Scotland national team but he has been very impressive in those appearances.

Now, with the Motherwell man set to become a free-agent, it is not surprising that a number of clubs are believed to be after his signature. In fact, the likes of Aberdeen, Dundee, Hearts, Cardiff City and Barnsley have been linked with him in the recent past, while there has been talk of interest from the Premier League as well.

He came through Celtic’s youth system though and could be eyeing a return to Parkhead. Back then, he left the club without making a single senior appearance for them but could end up competing for a spot in the starting XI if the move does happen in the summer.
