It’s that time of the season when we see talks get underway about the future of players. With a number of players likely to depart Parkhead over the course of the summer, it’s no surprise to see a couple of Celtic players being linked with moves away already.

And one man who could be set to leave the club in the very near future is Marian Shved, who failed to find his feet in Scottish football last season and is now at Belgian first division side KV Mechelen, where he is doing pretty well at this point of time.

Shved had a confusing time at the club with very limited first-team chances despite clearly showing a lot of potential before joining the Glasgow giants. His time at Belgian club Mechelen got off to a bumpy start as well as his attitude was criticised publicly by manager Wouter Vrancken.

He has managed to turn things around since then though, which he deserves a lot of credit for. According to the Daily Record (print edition) and as reported by BBC, the Hoops are now in talks with Mechelen regarding the possibility of a permanent transfer. The Hoops appear to have also dropped their initial £3 million asking price.

Could Shved have a future at Celtic?

It is safe to say that Shved has always shown a lot of potential. He has 4 goals and 3 assists to his name in 16 appearances for Mechelen this season. And the season before moving to Scotland, he had 15 goals and 4 assists in 26 appearances for Ukrainian side Karpaty Lviv.

Unfortunately, he only made 3 appearances for the Hoops last season and played a combined 40 minutes of football. Even then, he did manage to score a goal. And perhaps, if given more chances, he could have done well at Parkhead too.

Now, it will be interesting to see whether he ends up moving to Mechelen or remains at Parkhead. With Celtic’s lack of depth at right-wing, he could be a useful option to have for the club.
