A lot of changes are expected to take place at Celtic over the next couple of months as the club aim to return to the top of Scottish football next season, after losing the Premiership title to the Rangers in disappointing fashion, with six games to spare.
Peter Lawwell is set to retire from his role, which he has held for 17 years, and will be replaced by the incoming Dominic McKay. A new manager is also expected to brought in, along with a number of new players. Amidst all this, there have been growing rumours about the club appointing a Director of Football as well.
It looks like the club have made a lot of progress in that regard and Fergal Harkin appears to be the man who will get the role as reported by Football Insider. The report goes on to state that a deal is now “90 per cent done” according to their sources.
Harkin is currently at Manchester City, for whom he is the Football Partnerships and Pathways manager. And his experience of working at a top club for a long time could be very valuable for Celtic if the appointment is indeed made.

Is Harkin the right man for the Celtic job?
The role of Director of Football has grown in prominence over the past several years. Most top clubs appear to have one at the moment and it is certainly the right decision on the part of the Hoops to bring one in as well.
Now, is Harkin the right man for the job? Only time will tell. But this is definitely a show of intent on the part of the club that they are willing to change things in order to improve and return to the top of Scottish football once again.
There are some other interesting names who have been linked with Celtic regarding the role as well, including Matteo Tognozzi and David Webb. But at this point of time, it does look like Harkin will be the man at Parkhead come next season.
