Celtic have been linked with a number of players over the past couple of months as the side face a rebuild in the summer, with a new manager also expected to come in as they aim to win back the Premiership title from the Rangers as soon as possible.
One player that they have been linked with for a long time now though is Ben Davies. The former Preston North End defender appeared to be very close to agreeing a pre-contract deal with the Hoops in January. But Liverpool swooped in at the last moment and he ended up moving to Anfield on a permanent deal instead.
It is safe to say that things have not turned out as well as he would have expected when joining the Premier League champions. In fact, he is yet to play a single minute of football for Jurgen Klopp’s side and naturally, is already being linked with a move away from the club.
And Noel Whelan believes that Celtic will have a close eye on the defender in the summer. As reported by Football Insider, he said:
"“They’ll probably have a close eye on him in the summer. It’s a team that’s in transition, looking for a new manager, new players, a fresh start a change in personnel and structure.“It doesn’t surprise me that that they’re still hovering around Davies.”"
He also feels that the defender would be more suited to the Hoops:
"“It was a bit of cover that was there for him at the time but is he Liverpool standard? I don’t think so. He’d suit Celtic more than Liverpool.”"

Could Celtic still sign Ben Davies in the summer?
To be honest, it always looked like Davies was an emergency signing on the part of Liverpool. The Premier League giants have seen one player after the other go down with injury this season and probably brought him in as cover in case they suffered another injury setback.
But with Davies struggling to break into their first-team now, it is questionable whether he will be able to do so in the future when the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and the rest have recovered from their fitness issues.
Thus, it would not come as a surprise if Davies is indeed available soon. And in that case, the Hoops should look to make a move happen because he is clearly a talented centre-back who could help sort out the issues at the back.
