With the league title lost so early and all the disappointment surrounding Celtic this season, it’s easy to see why the remaining league games might not feel very important. But there is still time for the players to show what they are made of and win the Glasgow Derby this weekend in style.
We all know that this has been a disappointing campaign for everyone. But the Hoops still have the chance to end the Rangers’ undefeated run in the league, which should provide them with extra motivation going into the game.
One man who knows a lot about winning big games with Celtic is Bertie Auld. And he was interviewed before Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.
Auld is well respected, not only as a Lisbon Lion but for his enthusiasm for the club. Jock Stein as Auld’s and the Lions’ manager instilled his beliefs in his players. And the legend has talked about the importance of starting the game strong as well as entertaining the fans. As reported by Celtic’s official website, he said:
"“This is a game that you must read very quickly and the first quarter of an hour is always so important. Momentum is so important but so are those 50/50 balls. Big Jock would always tell us to win those and that helps you get a hold of the game.“We had 11 players on the park and they all wanted to entertain the fans. When you walked out there wearing that green and white jersey you felt as if you were 16 feet high, it didn’t matter who you were playing.”"

Celtic have the chance to end the Rangers’ unbeaten league run
Entertaining the fans is a big part of the fabric of Celtic Football Club. And whoever the manager is next season, will be expected to get the team back to playing entertaining football while also winning games on a consistent basis.
For the time being though, the focus will be on this Sunday’s game. The Hoops must win it in order to finish the campaign strong and then hopefully bounce back next season to return to the top of Scottish football.
The fans have not had much to cheer about this season with the team stumbling from one disappointing result to another. That could change when they take on the Rangers at Parkhead. Yes, the league is over but there is still a lot at stake whenever the two Glasgow sides meet each other.
So, it’s time to follow the Lisbon Lion’s advice and see the team roar on Sunday.
