Celtic have been linked with a wide variety of names in recent months as they are expected to bring in a new manager in the summer. And it is safe to say that Jesse Marsch is someone who most fans would be happy to see get the role.

The American has risen through the ranks over the past decade or so to establish himself as one of the most promising managers in Europe right now. And while speaking with BBC, he admitted that the recent links with Celtic were “an honour” for him.

Naturally, this led to a lot of headlines and hopes were raised about the club making a move for Marsch in the summer. Although his comments were definitely open to interpretation, it did suggest that a move might interest him if he was intrigued by the project.

Now, the manager has come out though and played down the rumours of him being headed for the Red Bull Salzburg exit and insisted that his job was not done with the Austrian side. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he said:

"“My work here is definitely not done, we have a lot of fun together.“With the board and the group with Stephan [Reiter] and Christoph (Freund), with my coaching staff and the team.“You will see what the next steps are. What is important for the club and for me.“My family is very happy in Salzburg. We have made many friends. It is not necessary to take a step.“The most important thing is to concentrate on our work. We now have two months.”"

Could a move to Celtic happen eventually?

Marsch already has some history with the Hoops, as the club sponsored him on his coaching course to receive his UEFA Pro License.

Now, it is true that Marsch has played down the rumours surrounding an exit from Red Bull Salzburg but football is a game where things can change very quickly. And it is entirely possible that an opportunity could present itself to bring the manager to Parkhead in the near future.

It is also worth pointing out that he has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga as well and his current contract will expire in the summer of 2022.

For the time being though, he is the manager of Red Bull Salzburg and we can only wish him the best for his work there.
