It is no secret that Celtic could look to bring in a new manager in the summer after a disappointing season that saw them lose the Premiership title to the Rangers with six games to spare.

After Neil Lennon stepped down from his role in the middle of the campaign, John Kennedy has been handed interim charge of the team. And although we cannot rule out the possibility of him getting the job on a permanent basis, it is unlikely that that will happen unless results and performances improve drastically over the next couple of months.

In this regard, a number of names have been linked with the club. This has included former Champions League winners like Rafa Benitez as well as Roy Keane, who has not been a first-team manager in over a decade now.

Frank Lampard is someone who has also been linked with the role though. And as reported by Football Insider, Alex McLeish said:

"“I’m hearing whispers that Frank Lampard was seen with the Celtic directors. No matter what, the rumour mill will continue to thrive until an appointment is finally made.“I think the fans would love a big name. There’s no doubt about it, they’ll be looking for that kind of personality.“Saying that, they would also crave a coach in the style of Brendan Rodgers. The modern-day coach per se, not the managerial type situation.”"

Could Frank Lampard be the man for the Celtic job?

To be honest, Lampard does not get the credit that he deserves for the work that he did during his relatively short spell at Chelsea as a manager. He came in at a point when the club were facing a transfer ban and Eden Hazard had just left for Real Madrid.

Nobody had expected that team to finish in the top four and yet, Lampard guided them to the knockout phase of the Champions League, took them to the FA Cup final and also finished fourth in the Premier League table, all while promoting players from the club’s academy.

That is an incredible achievement for any manager. Is he the man for the Parkhead job though? That is certainly debatable.

The club find themselves in a tricky situation at the moment, as they need to challenge for trophies although next season could prove to be a transitional one at the same time.
