In the middle of a disappointing campaign, Neil Lennon stepped down as Celtic manager, leaving John Kennedy in interim charge of the side. And unless both results and performances improve drastically over the next few months, it is expected that the club will bring in a new manager at the end of the season.

Multiple high-profile names have been linked with the job over the past few months. This has included former Champions League winners like Rafa Benitez as well as promising young managers like Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard. Another man whose name has been doing the rounds over the past couple of days is Chris Wilder.

Wilder has left Sheffield United by mutual consent, with the club sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table. But it is hard to deny the incredible work that he had done ever since joining them in 2016.

In the space of three seasons, he guided them from League One to the Premier League and then finished ninth in their first season back in the top flight of English football. That is a massive achievement for any manager. Unfortunately, things did not turn out as expected this season.

Jamie Redknapp appears to be a big fan of the manager. As reported by the Daily Record, while talking on Sky Sports, he said:

"“Pre-lockdown, we were talking about if they could qualify for the Champions League. Lockdown obviously caused them a lot of problems. The signings probably haven’t worked out, (Rhian) Brewster – when you bring a young player in, you’re hoping they hit the ground running, that hasn’t worked.“But when I think back to the job that he did, how he played with the back three with the two centre-halves overlapping. It was revolutionary, in a way, and we don’t expect a manager to do something we haven’t seen before.“But he’ll bounce back. If I was an owner right now and I’m thinking of a manager to play the right way and get the best out of players, Chris Wilder would be right on top of my list.”"

Celtic have been linked with Wilder

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Celtic have been touted as a possible destination for Wilder. And it is not hard to see why he would be expected to do a good job at Parkhead.

Wilder has done a respectable job at every club he has been a manager at through the course of his career. And his style of football should suit that of the Hoops, which is very important for any manager that ends up at the club.

Will the move ultimately happen? Only time will tell. But if it does, fans should be happy cause they will be getting a good manager who has proven in the past that he can get the best out of players and produce some brilliant football along the way as well.
