Admittedly, Celtic have been linked with a number of managers over the past several months. Eddie Howe, Rafa Benitez, Frank Lampard, Roberto Martinez, Roy Keane, David Moyes among many others, have all been mentioned. And it is time to add the name of Chris Wilder to that quickly growing list.

It looks like Wilder is on the verge of leaving his role as manager of Sheffield United as reported by Sky Sports. And if that does indeed happen, he should definitely be in the running for the Parkhead job.

Yes, Sheffield United are at the bottom of the Premier League right now. But one bad season cannot take away from the spectacular job that he has done at the club ever since arriving in 2016.

In the space of three seasons, Wilder guided them from League One to the Premier League. And then, in their first season back in the top flight of English football, The Blades finished 9th. That is quite an achievement.

Wilder could do a great job at Celtic

It was not too long ago that Wilder was being showered with plaudits and being hailed as one of the best managers in the Premier League. Undoubtedly, his team have had a bad season. But that does not change the fact that he is a good manager.

Should he be the favourite for the Celtic job? Probably not, especially as long as former Champions League winner, Rafa Benitez, continues to be linked with the role. But it would be wrong to completely rule out Wilder on the basis of just this season.

He has done well wherever he has been at. He won League Two with Northampton Town, before taking over at Sheffield United, where he won League One and finished second in the Championship.

And he is a manager the Hoops should definitely consider if the opportunity arises to make the appointment in the near future.
