Although they have not been a force in Europe for quite some time now, Celtic remain one of the biggest clubs on the planet. And those who have played for the Hoops often want to make a return.
The latest name to be added in that growing list of former players wanting to make a Parkhead return is that of Massimo Donati. The Italian did not have a spectacular time at the club and made just 7 appearances in his second season, before joining Bari in the following campaign.
After retiring in 2018, Donati has moved into coaching and has already had a role at Kilmarnock. And although he is yet to manage a club, it looks like he is aiming to be the Celtic manager one day.
While speaking with Tribal Football, he said:
"“Celtic is really a great club, not even I was aware of its greatness until I found myself living it every day.“From the point of view of the organisation (and not only that) it is very similar to Milan. My dream/goal is to become manager of Celtic one day.”"

Donati dreams of being the Celtic manager one day
Donati is yet to lead a club on his own, as a result, it is going to be quite a long time before he is in the running for the Parkhead job.
But the fact that he has played for the club could work in his favour though, if he does show ability as a manager in the future. After all, it does appear that the Hoops prefer to have former players in the role.
For the time being, the club appear to be in the search of a new manager, with names like Rafa Benitez, Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard, Roberto Martinez and many others being linked with the job. And an appointment is expected to be made in the summer.
At this point, John Kennedy is in interim charge though and there is a very real possibility that he could be given the role on a permanent basis, if the results and performances improve from here on till the end of the season. Winning against the Rangers in the upcoming Glasgow Derby could be a good starting point for that.
