Celtic are expected to sign a number of new players over the next few months as they look to rebuild their squad and challenge for the Premiership title once again, after losing it to the Rangers with six games to spare this time around. And it looks like they have already gotten their first deal of the summer transfer window over the line.
It has been rumoured for a while that Liam Shaw had agreed a pre-contract deal with the Hoops, although no confirmation was made.
Of course, there have been comments made here and there regarding it. But now, the Sheffield Wednesday midfielder has himself confirmed that he will be joining the Glasgow giants at the end of this season.
Today, the player released a statement on his Twitter, which confirmed that he was set to join Celtic in the summer:
"“After discussing the options with my family, I have decided to take on a new challenge and so, I’ve agreed to join Celtic, one of the most famous and prestigious clubs in the world, on July 1.”"

Shaw could prove to be a shrewd signing for Celtic
The 19-year-old has made 18 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday this season and is very highly-rated by the club. Although he plays mostly as a central midfielder, he is capable of playing as a centre-back as well, which has led to him being compared with Kristoffer Ajer.
Shaw’s contract expires at the end of this season and the Hoops have managed to agree a pre-contract deal with him. And fans will be hoping that he has a long future at Parkhead, as the club are in some serious need of rebuilding this summer.
Will he come into the team and immediately establish himself as a starter? Probably not. But he has enough quality already to be getting regular minutes and hopefully, he can develop into a first-team star in a year or two. Or, he could do a Jeremie Frimpong and break into the starting XI just a few months later.
Whichever may be the case, it is clear that the club have gotten themselves a promising young player here and they should be delighted with the move.
