Owen Coyle makes behind the scenes Celtic and Neil Lennon claim

Celtic have had to endure a nightmare season. With 10IAR on the line, the team failed to produce results in the league and ended up losing the title to the Rangers with six games to spare.

Neil Lennon had already resigned a week or so ago by that point though, leaving John Kennedy in interim charge of the side. And after incredibly successful spells at the club, both as a player and a manager, this was a very sad end to this time at Parkhead.

Ultimately though, it was the right decision. And if the board had made a change earlier, the season probably could have ended differently. What is done is done though and nobody can change the past. The club should be focused on the future though and winning back the Premiership next season.

While speaking on the Celtic Huddle Podcast, Owen Coyle had some interesting behind the scenes insight into Lennon’s tenure at Parkhead though. As reported by the Glasgow Times, he claimed that the Northern Irishman had asked for different people to come in and help him but those moves never transpired:

"“I know for a fact that Neil had asked for different people to come in and help him.“That never transpired. I think he needed that, if I’m being honest.”"

Was Lennon not given the best chance to succeed at Celtic?

At the end of the day, the majority of the blame for this season has fallen on the shoulders of Lennon. But he is not the only reason behind the club’s recent struggles. The players, the board, the other coaching staff, all deserve their fair share of the blame as well for coming up short.

Ultimately, this was perhaps the most important season in Celtic’s history since 1967 and they could not make it count. Again, there is no way to change things though. As a result, what the club must do now is learn from these mistakes and use them to get better in the future.

Some changes need to be made in order to freshen things up and hopefully whoever the manager is next season, gets the full support to turn things around.
