This has been one of the most disappointing seasons in the history of Celtic. With 10IAR on the line, they ended up losing the league to the Rangers with six games to spare. And they have a huge task on their hands when it comes to rebuilding this team.

As things stand, Steven Gerrard’s side have a 20 point lead and the title already won. And that gap could increase even further over the coming weeks as the Hoops have been dropping points at an alarming rate throughout the course of the season.

Of course, this has raised questions regarding Celtic potentially giving the newly crowned Scottish champions a guard of honour when the two sides meet in the Glasgow Derby at Parkhead on March 21st.

John Hartson does not appear to believe that there is any need for a guard of honour though, especially considering the rivalry between the two sides. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“Celtic don’t need to be told this season that Rangers have deserved it. And the players will appreciate just how well Rangers have played and how consistent they have been.“But the guard of honour thing is just a nonsense, really. They are rivals and there has to be mutual respect but you can have that without needing to go down the guard of honour road.“What Rangers have achieved this season is there in black and white and will be forever more. They don’t need a guard of honour to be reminded of what they have done.”"

Celtic need to win the upcoming Glasgow Derby

The Hoops have endured a nightmare campaign, and there is a very real possibility that they will end the season without a trophy, with the upcoming Scottish Cup their only remaining chance of silverware. That is quite extraordinary when you consider the fact that they just completed an incredible Quadruple Treble a few months ago.

Coming to the matter of the guard of honour, the Rangers did have the chance to do the same back in 2019 but did not do it. So nobody can blame Celtic if they decide to not give one either.

Hopefully, the Hoops will be aiming to win this Glasgow Derby. It will not only be a massive victory for a team which has not enjoyed too many of them through the course of this campaign but will also end the Rangers’ unbeaten run in the league this season.
