Celtic are expected to undergo a number of changes over the next few months as they aim to return to top of the Scottish Premiership once again, after losing the title to the Rangers this season with six games to spare.

These changes won’t just be on the pitch but off it too. Peter Lawwell will step down from his role after 17 years and will be replaced by Dominic McKay. And a new director of football is expected to be brought in as well.

In that regard, they have been handed a massive boost. One of the most high-profile names being linked with the club is that of Matteo Tognozzi.

They were not without competition though, as Manchester United were rumoured to be after the Juventus man as well. But as reported by ESPN, they have now appointed John Murtough as their first football director, meaning Celtic won’t have to compete with the Premier League giants for Tognozzi.

Can Celtic bring Tognozzi to Parkhead?

Tognozzi is very highly-rated for his work at Juventus in a scouting role. Other than the Italian giants, he has also had recruitment roles at Bayer Leverkusen, Zenit St. Petersburg and Hamburg.

Thus, he has worked at some of the biggest clubs all over Europe and now appears to be interesting in taking on a bigger role. And this could lead him to Celtic.

The director of football role has grown in importance in recent years. And in order to keep evolving with the times, the Hoops should appoint one as well. Tognozzi is a very good candidate for such a position.

But can they bring him to Parkhead? It is expected that there will be enough interest in Tognozzi’s services if he is indeed available. And the club have been linked with multiple other names as well when it comes to the appointment of their next director of football.

Only time will tell who the club end up getting, if they do appoint a director of football at all. One thing is for sure, the next few months will be very interesting.
